Chapel Hunting

As you will read below in Ericka's blogs, we are currently looking for wedding venues. You will see that I am actually fully engaged in the search with her. I didn't think I would be that concerned with the planning of the wedding, I thought the vast majority of the planning would fall to Ericka. I have seen that it is very educational and I have gained some good knowledge in the process. For the most part, each wedding venue has been very unique to itself with a unique history. I like history, thus I like hearing about the places we have been viewing. Plus, we got to see the underground tunnel system in the bass hall and we walked underneath calhoun street to a bulding across the street from the bass hall. So far, bass has been my favorite setting for a reception, but I am inclined to music venues and its hard to beat the Bass Hall. It seems like everyday we come across a new place to investigate. When its all said and done there is no telling where we will end up. It could be Glen Rose or it could be Greece. Either way, I will walk away with a wealth of knowledge about possible wedding venues, so if anyone of you who actually read this need help with your future wedding venue then just ask me or Ericka. I have also learned quite a bit about diamonds. I find the buy and selling and cutting of diamonds fascinating. Latley, Ericka and I have been watching competitive cooking shows like Top Chef and this is going to play a huge oll in choosing a caterer. I've always wanted to have a cheese tray and a crockpot of lil' smokies n barbeque sauce. I don't think that will suffice now. I'm becoming a food snob. Anyhow, I suppose I am writing this to say that I care about the details in our wedding ceremony

Rings, Dates, and Venues OH MY!!!

So the wedding planning has begun.

First of all. My mom offered her engagement diamond to us a few weeks ago. About a week ago we decided to take it and use it in the ring. The diamond is from my dad to my mom (back when they were married.) It is absolutely gorgeous and has so much sentimental value. I am glad that my dad somehow gets to be a part of this since he can’t otherwise. Greg and I went diamond setting shopping and finally ended up at Jared’s. I know what you might be thinking…JARED’S?!!?!?! I am not a fan of jewelry franchises with horribly catching jingles but it was the place we felt most comfortable with. They had the exact setting I wanted and our salesman was a really great, geninuley nice guy. The best thing was that in a way my ring was customed made and it is my dream ring.

Greg and I have been tossing around dates in December 2008. After having a short discussion with my mother we realized that anytime around Christmas is out of the question. People are too frantic and crazy and stressed for a wedding around Christmas. So Greg and I found a solution (fingers crossed) which is still in 2008 but on the cusp of 2009. That’s right, New Year’s Eve. We thought there is no better way to bring in the New Year as a new couple than with our friends and family.

Big problem though! Churches are not open on New Year’s Eve!!!!! We called every church we are affiliated with somehow and none of them are open that day. So we moved to plan B. Chapels. Finding a chapel is hard…finding a chapel with stained glass windows and stones walls is harder! The chapel of my dreams does not seem to exist in the DFW area. So then comes Plan C. Venues and Chapels-that-aren’t-chapels-of-my-dreams.

These types of places are also hard to find but as of right now we have three in mind.

  • The first choice as of right now is probably the most expensive but it goes with my idea of simple, elegant and New Year’s Eve-y
    http://www.threethreethreefirstavenue.com/weddings.htm
  • The second place is in the hospital district of Fort Worth.
    http://www.rosechapel.org/
it’s part of historic fort worth. I promise the carpet is not pink, it’s maroon. We went there today and it has some promising potentional. Some.
  • The third is an old mansion also in Fort Worth.

but I’m afraid it might be too stuffy.
So those are tenative ideas for right now.

My goal for this summer is to have a date!, a place, and a pastor.
Wish us luck.

this engagement and others

If you want to know one of my favourite foods I will tell you. Toast with marmalade. Freakin’ love it. I would eat it every morning if I thought about it.

So for one of my classes we have to choose these topics and spend the whole semester (summer semester) writing about them. I choose the trend of eco-friendliness. Whatever. It’s pretty interesting.
Bindi Irwin (Steve’s daughter) is on target!

Let’s see. I got my hair cut awhile ago. It’s 2 ½ inches shorter. Didn’t totally mean for that happen. But I am growing it out.

Still saving up for the macbook. I’ll be babysitting soon and I’m selling a lot of stuff I don’t need.

So Greg and I have thrown around wedding dates. We have a list of dates we would like to get married on. All next year: 2008. We are hoping for the earliest date!

Here. Now I will tell the details of our engagement.

Let’s see. We went out to a very nice dinner…very nice. It was fantastic food and a great, cozy environment. I knew something was up for Greg had bought me a dress for the dinner and while we go out to nice places to eat…never this nice. So at dinner I leaned over to Greg and told him that if he was planning on proposing please don’t do it here! He didn’t. After dinner we went back to my place and we were just hanging out and talking. Greg left his phone in his jeep so he went to go get it. After he came back we were just talking and he said, “tonight reminds me of a poem in A Severe Mercy.” (A Severe Mercy is a book that we both enjoy, I was introduced to it last summer and I introduced Greg to it in August.) I said, “which poem?” and he pulls out his book and tells me to flip to page 75. On page 75 is a poem he wrote that describes our relationship, etc. A lovely poem. Greg then tells me to turn to page 100 and cut out of the book is a hole and placed in the book is a ring. He then gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. Of course I say yes.

So now almost everyone knows about us. We have a year or so to get everything together and plan our wedding. I’m excited, how could I not be? However, if it was up to us we would get married tomorrow.
